A French 1st Empire period Mahogany, marquetry inlaid inverted break fronted chest of drawers, commode ( Semanier ) dating from c 1810 The rectangular inset marble top with chamfered top edge above a top section of three long Oak lined drawers, each with double satinwood strung border, twin marquetry inlaid satinwood fan paterae and twin decorative brass knob handles. The drawers flanked by protruding Egyptian style Sarcophagi with bronzed figurative detail. The base section of similar form with flanking angular double satinwood strung columns. The sides with similar double stringing and Marquetry inlaid oval fan paterae. The whole supported on angular stylised bracket feet. Excellent graduating colour and patina, the handles probably original,the piece in good condition. Some filled cracks to the sides and various minor marks and abrasions consistent with age and use. 2,500
