A French Ist Empire period Fruitwood framed sofa dating from c 1800. The sofa with shaped back and skirt and with scrolled arms and legs. The gold fabric upholstery, not original, with shell floral motif. The frame in good condition, showing various signs of wear consistent with its date and also displaying the signs of primary hand cuts of timber in accord with manufacturing techniques of the period. A couple of old repairs as seen in photos. The upholstery in good condition but used with more wear at front edge of seat. The seat of the sofa is sprung but would originally have been a firm seat with a horse hair matress, the springing being added later in the 19th Century. 650
