A small Japanese hardwood Meiji period Shibayama inlaid cabinet (shodana) dating from c 1870. The planked top above an a-symetrical assortment of open shelves, two cupboards and four drawers with detailed carved Ivory, mother of pearl and layered gilt lacquer decoration. The shelves with carved acanthus relief standing on a base with carved lotus skirt and scrolled feet. Beautiful colour and patina, finely executed carving and good condition displaying numerous minor marks, bumps etc consistent with age and use. 1890
