A 19th Century Italian
polychromed Mahogany Cabinet on stand dating from c 1860. The
architectural cornice with gadrooned bottom edge and with dentils above
frieze columnal gilt mouldings above a richly decorated cabinet front with
arched and round glazed panels,moulded carved columns topped with gilt
acanthus and Ionian capitals, red faux marble columns with gilt detailing
and carved gadrooned lip standing on a faux marble base. Below, a central
short drawer with floral carved panel, gilt mounted surround and ormolu
escutcheon flanked by carved gilt acanthus leaf and secret drawers with
green faux marble paneled fronts. The cabinet sides of corresponding
decoration in addition to two arched doors for cabinet access.
The base with moulded edge above a single long frieze drawer with carved floral panel flanked by faux marble protruding panels and carved gilt acanthus decoration supported on two red faux marble twin columns with gilt Ionian capitals and with carved back panels.The sides with two short panel carved drawers, the whole standing on an architectural platform base with moulded edge and standing on two twin bun feet.
An unusual and unique piece of furniture almost certainly a special commission and of fine quality being constructed of solid Mahogany. Excellent original condition, some very minor chipping to some delicate decorative detail and minor wear to decorative surface consistent with age and use. £2650
