A northern European mid
18th Century Fruitwood bureau cabinet ( Cartonnier) dating from c 1750.
The top with arched cornice above a central arched cross banded and ebony
strung door containing a single shelf and lined in burgundy silk. The door
flanked by nine cross banded drawers with ebony stringing and brass
handles. The bureau base with ebony strung fall front containing a white
leather lined interior with four drawers and shelf, above two long
correspondingly decorative drawers, the whole standing on cabriole legs.
Lovely mellow colour, good condition with various minor marks consistent
with age and use. No evidence of any other handles being fitted so handles
and escutcheons are probably original. £2450
