A fine Neo classical Italian Milanese Walnut Commode with marquetry inlays dating to c 1770 and possibly from the workshop of Giuseppe Maggiolini. The rectangular top with Satin wood stringing, fruitwood cross banding and central musically themed marquetry set in a triangular Satin wood strung border above a long frieze drawer with fine floral and figurative marquetry inlay, fruitwood cross banding and Satin wood strung above a further two corresponding long drawers finely inlaid with various woods depicting characters from Greek mythology flanked by an edge with ebony panels set within a Satin wood strung border and containing fine floral marquetry. The sides with similar fine decoration, the whole standing on tapering inlaid legs. Beautiful rich colour, good condition with a myriad of minor scratches, abrasions and bumps consistent with age and use. Evidence of minor historic worm endemic to the region, none active. Some slight shrinkage to ground wood of top ( see photos ) Handles and escutcheons are early 19th Century additions. All original locks present although no working key. 9500
