An early 18th Century Burr Walnut Bureau bookcase dating from c 1720. The bookcase top with stepped concave cornice above a pair of glazed doors with original lock and working key. The bookcase interior with two adjustable shelves and three drawers. The bureau base with twin candle holders, figured Walnut fall front containing a galleried interior of drawers and pigeon holes and with Olive green tooled and gilt leather aged writing leather. Below, A thin map, or document drawer above two short and two long Burr Walnut feather banded drawers with brass handles and escutcheons, the whole standing on shaped bracket feet. Good condition, fine mellow colour with various minor knocks, scratches etc consistent with age and use. Its probable that originally the glazed doors would have been mirrored, the existing glazing, although old is replacement clear glass. 2450
