A small mid 18th Century Louis XV period Bombe shaped Kingwood Commode dating from c 1750. The tray top with varigated marble insert above a brass inlaid grooved frieze above two shaped Fruitwood strung drawers with ormolu ( gilt on brass) handles and escutcheons separated by a grooved brass inlaid divider. The corners with rounded brass inlay running the length of the chest with ormolu mounts. The sides with diamond shaped fruitwood inlay, the whole standing on Ormolu mounted cabriole legs terminating with Ormolu mounts. The handles, escutcheons and mounts are original. Good condition with various minor marks, chips, scratches and bumps consistent with age and use. Beautiful mellow colour and patina. 1950
