A superb extremely rare
Italian early 18th Century Venetian painted and parcel gilt Bureau cabinet
dating from c 1730 and in original condition. The Cabinet top with Gilt
broken arch cornice above a single mercury mirrored ( some deterioration
in mercury) door with shallow canted flanking corners and with overall
flowing gilt decorative detail on a pale silvery blue painted ground.
Below, a gilt base moulding with centered pull out candle holder. The
cabinet interior with three short drawers surmounted by pigeon holes with
decorative pediments. The Bureau base with gilt decorative fall front
flanked by half round gilt mouldings and with original lock and key. The
interior with three drawers, decorative pediments flanking pigeon holes
and central writing well. Below, the arc en arbelette shaped serpentine
front with three long shaped drawers with original locks and key divided
by thick shaped half round gilt mouldings and standing on a thick gilded
base moulding, the whole supported on gilt bun feet.
The paintwork, gilding, iron locks, keys, nailed drawers, door hinges and mirror are all original with no signs of any restorations whatsoever. In naturally worn and distressed condition. An incredibly rare and important object.
This item is currently in Italy, and due to its rarity requires an export license before it can be transported to us in the UK. It should be on display at our showroom in East Sussex by the end of September 2017 and on arrival more detailed photos will be taken and posted. We will not be carrying out any further processes than a gentle cleaning off of excess dirt. £55000
